Congratulations to Medical Engineering Postdoc Rashid Alavi who was appointed to the Editorial Board of the "Journal of the American Heart Association (JAHA)" as an Early Career Editorial Board member. The Editorial Board ensures that JAHA publishes high-quality, impactful cardiovascular research while mentoring the next generation of scientific leaders.
Rashid Alavi is a James Boswell Postdoctoral Fellow in Medical Engineering at Caltech, working in the laboratory of Mory Gharib, Hans W. Liepmann Professor of Aeronautics and Medical Engineering, where he leads projects bridging engineering and medicine in collaboration with the Huntington Medical Research Institutes and the internationally recognized cardiologist, Dr. Robert A. Kloner. His research focuses on developing innovative physics-based AI approaches and wearable technologies grounded in cardiovascular fluid dynamics and biomechanics, analytical–experimental frameworks, and physiological signal processing for low-cost and early diagnosis of silent heart attacks, asymptomatic heart failure, ischemic stroke, and migraine. Dr. Alavi completed his PhD in mechanical/cardiovascular engineering in 2023, focusing on physics-based AI for the diagnosis of super-silent heart attacks. His doctoral work included multiple clinical and preclinical studies conducted at HMRI and USC Keck Hospital. During his doctoral training, his work received several recognitions. He was named a finalist for the 2023 Young Investigator Award of the American College of Cardiology (ACC). He also received the 2023 Student Recognition Award from the PKP National Honor Society for contributions to innovative technologies preventing heart diseases, including patented developments focused on wearables and smartphone-acquired arterial waveforms. In August 2023, he was awarded the James Boswell Postdoctoral Fellowship by the Caltech Provost's Office.
